The percussionist and bandleader Guy Schalom has appeared with many major Arabic artists and dancers in festivals in Europe and USA, guides master classes and combines in his performances Klezmer and Egyptian music. His own group The Baladi Blues Ensemble focuses on improvised urban Egyptian music. He is also active in Jewish music and has worked with many major artists in this tradition, such as Klezmatics (New York), Natacha Atlas (UK) and Les Musiciens Du Nil and Qenawy Family (Egypt). He is focused on the connection between music and dance and works regularly with Arabic, Jewish and Flamenco dancers combining choreographies and on-the-spot improvisations. He has taught throughout Europe and North America, and is currently on the teaching staff at the annual Klezfest in London, a member of Hamsa Ensemble and runs his own independent record label.
